Bawku West DCE praises Mahama for relative peace in Bawku

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bawku West, James Ayamweogo, has commended President John Dramani Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress for what he describes as the relative peace currently being experienced in conflict-prone Bawku.
According to the DCE, the security situation in the conflict-prone area has remained stable in recent weeks, allowing residents to gradually return to their communities and resume their daily lives.
The Bawku conflict, which reignited in December 2021, claimed several lives and led to the destruction of property, displacing many residents and disrupting economic and social activities.
Mr. Ayamweogo said the relative calm follows a number of interventions undertaken after President Mahama assumed office. He noted that the President visited Bawku within his first week in office, after which efforts were intensified to restore peace to the area.
He observed that gun battles have ceased, attacks on major roads have significantly reduced, and normalcy is gradually returning to affected communities.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Ayamweogo praised President Mahama’s commitment to the peace process and expressed optimism that the gains made would be sustained through continued collaboration among all stakeholders.
The Bawku West DCE also commended the security agencies, traditional authorities particularly the Zugraan of Kusaug and other stakeholders for their collective efforts in restoring calm to the area. He urged residents to continue supporting ongoing peace initiatives to ensure lasting stability and development in Bawku.
