One Ghana Movement, GAFCSC to host 2026 Republic Day Public Lecture on regional security July 1

The One Ghana Movement, in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), will on Tuesday, July 1, host the 2026 Republic Day Public Lecture at the Hamidu Hall of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Teshie.
The lecture, scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m., will focus on the theme, “From the Sahel to the Gulf of Guinea: Addressing Violent Extremism and Maritime Insecurity in West Africa – Implications for Ghana and Regional Security.”
The event is expected to bring together government officials, security experts, members of the diplomatic community, the military, academia, and other stakeholders to deliberate on the growing security threats confronting West Africa and their implications for Ghana and the sub-region.
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, will attend as the Special Guest of Honour, while the Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Major General J. Wonje, will host the programme.
Former ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Josephine Nkrumah, will chair the event.
The public lecture will feature keynote presentations by Vice Admiral Issah Yakubu (Rtd.), former Chief of Naval Staff, and Professor Kwesi Aning, a renowned security consultant, who are expected to share expert insights on tackling violent extremism, strengthening maritime security, and enhancing regional cooperation to promote peace and stability across West Africa.
Organisers say the lecture forms part of activities marking the 2026 Republic Day celebrations and aims to stimulate informed national dialogue on emerging security challenges affecting the region.
The event will be broadcast live on Citi 97.3 FM and JoyNews.
