2027: Ogun APM picks Akinlade as deputy governorship candidate

By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta

The Ogun State chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has announced Ms. Akinlade Abosede, as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

According to the party, the announcement has been welcomed by party supporters across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the nomination, the Ogun State Chairman of the APM, Comrade Sanyaolu Abayomi, said the party’s decision followed what he described as extensive consultations and strategic political considerations aimed at strengthening its chances in the 2027 governorship election.

According to him, “after diligent search and careful political calculations, the party resolved to nominate Ms. Akinlade Abosede, a Political Science graduate, from a respected political family in Ogun West, as our deputy governorship candidate.”

Abayomi described the nomination as “a divine mandate” and said it would provide Ogun West with what he called “a genuine opportunity to have a true indigene of Yewa land occupy the office of Deputy Governor from May 29, 2027.”

The party chairman added that the choice reflected the APM’s commitment to ensuring equitable representation across the state.

Also speaking, the party’s governorship candidate, Prince Rotimi Matthew Babajide, expressed confidence that the ticket would resonate with voters across Ogun State.

“We are presenting what we believe is a balanced ticket. I am a prince from Egbaland, while my running mate is a bona fide indigene of Yewaland with political experience and an academic background in Political Science,” he said.

Babajide stated that the APM believes Ogun State “cannot afford to entrust its leadership to someone pretending to represent the interests of Yewa people,” adding that the party’s candidates are “true son and daughter of Ogun State.”

The APM chairman disclosed that the official unveiling of Ms. Akinlade Abosede as the party’s deputy governorship candidate would take place in Abeokuta on a date to be announced.
