Tom Holland’s Nickname for Zendaya Isn’t What You’d Expect
Tom Holland and Zendaya’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour has already delivered several memorable appearances from the famously private couple. This week, the pair offered another glimpse into their relationship when Holland casually called Zendaya by a different name during the film’s Rome premiere.
While speaking with reporters on the red carpet on June 23, Holland appeared to have a question for his wife, who was conducting an interview farther down the line. Rather than using “Zendaya” or the nickname “Z,” which he has referenced publicly before, Holland called out, “Maree!”
Zendaya immediately responded, “Yeah?”
“What’s the name of that place?” Holland asked, referring to a location the pair planned to visit after the event.
“Giolitti’s,” Zendaya replied before turning back to her interview and adding, “That’s where we’re going after this.”
The brief exchange stood out because “Maree” is Zendaya’s middle name. The actress’s full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, though she has long been known professionally by her first name alone.
The appearance marked another stop on the couple’s promotional tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which reunites them on-screen as Peter Parker and Michelle “M.J.” Jones. At the premiere, Zendaya wore a vintage Giorgio Armani gown featuring a subtle spiderweb motif, while Holland opted for a burgundy Louis Vuitton suit.
The red carpet moment comes shortly after Holland publicly confirmed that he and Zendaya are married. In a June interview with Esquire UK, the actor addressed AI-generated images that purported to show the couple’s wedding and was asked whether he worried family members might think they had been excluded from the celebration.
“No, because they were all there,” Holland said. “That’s all you’ll get on that.”
Elsewhere in the interview, he reflected on their relationship and the support they provide one another while navigating life in the public eye.
“Our business can present very stressful situations and it’s really nice to have a bedrock of a relationship that will stand the test of time,” Holland said. “We can support each other in ways that only we can, because only we understand really what it’s like to live this life, and I think that is such a luxury, because I just don’t understand how I would be able to have anything like that with anyone else.”
He continued, “So, for me, I found my person. She’s my best friend, and I’m the happiest I have ever been when I’m with her, but I have also never felt so supported and safe, ever. Period.”
