The 20 Best Skin Care Tools to Tone, Lift, and Boost Collagen

In recent years, skin care routines have gotten supercharged, thanks mostly to tools. The skin care tool market, already valued at more than $76 billion, is expected to grow by 53 percent by 2030. As demand continues to grow for skin gadgets, it’s even harder to figure out which ones work and which ones just sound impressive.
We recruited 28 ELLE staffers to put some of the most popular tools to the test, to see if they could help sculpt, lift, and tone. We asked them to be brutally honest: Did the LED mask they tried make a difference or simply look futuristic? Was their face more sculpted after using microcurrent, or did it look the same? Did the TikTok-famous multimodal tool live up to the hype, or was it just that—hype? We got the answers to all of these questions and more, and found the best skin care tools that are actually worth adding to your routine.

Four different wavelengths—amber, deep red, infrared, and red—can help smooth under-eye skin and reduce puffiness over time. Our tester noted that the goggles sat securely on the face without tugging and liked that the sessions were a mere three minutes. Over time, she noticed that her under-eye area looked a little less dark and fatigued.
This gua sha facial tool sculpts, but it’s also turbocharged with both red light (to boost collagen production and radiance) and infrared light (to mitigate inflammation and improve circulation). “I noticed a difference in my face shape and my cheeks and jaw looked more defined,” our tester said. As a consistent gua sha user, he noted that the addition of the LED light helped make his complexion look even brighter.
Best Multitasking Skin Care Tool

Althaea Skin Cara Multi-Modal Tool Kit
This device is tiny but mighty. It packs LED, electromagnetic stimulation, and radiofrequency to brighten, sculpt, and boost collagen. It has three different modes—Clarify, which uses blue light to clear skin; Restore, with red light to firm and boost circulation; and Activate, utilizing a combo to target dullness. Our tester found the effects to be nearly instantaneous. She used it every other night and switched between modes based on needs. “After using the Clarify mode, my skin was much clearer, smoother, and it seemed to help slough off a small area of dull roughness that I’ve had for a while. The Activate mode helped depuff under my eyes and even curbed some inflammation above my brows. Restore mode seemed to help tighten and smooth.”
What if you could get some of the benefits of an in-office laser treatment at home, sans numbing cream and downtime? This is the only FDA-cleared at-home fractional laser, delivering targeted beams to lower layers of the skin to aid in renewal and firming. It’s suitable for use across skin tones. Our tester said this handheld laser was surprisingly easy to work into their routine, and a full treatment only took a few minutes. “After a couple of weeks of consistent use, my skin seemed to look smoother, more even-toned, and subtly brighter, with fine lines appearing softer.” Their one note? Start on a low setting and work your way up to avoid pain.

Your neck care routine just got a major upgrade. CurrentBody’s Series 2 LED Neck and Décolletage Mask features 229 LED bulbs, up from the 50 bulbs in the Series 1 mask. The mask also uses three precise wavelengths—red, near-infrared, and deep near-infrared—to boost collagen production, firm and brighten, and target aging at the hypodermis, the deepest layer of the skin. Our tester typically has a handheld red-light wand in her routine and recently upgraded to the mask. After using it every other day, she noticed that small blemishes had disappeared, and her skin looked more radiant. “I think for those who want to treat their neck area, investing in a mask is well worth it,” she said.
Most LED tools are designed to cover a big area in one go. But if you’d prefer something a little more targeted, there’s this handheld device, which has a combination of near-infrared light, red light, and pulsed broad-spectrum light, purported to help reduce inflammation. Our tester called this device “foolproof” and liked using it for specific body parts. As someone with eczema, she found that it helped her skin to remain clear and smooth and even lightened scarring around her ears.
This mask uses four different types of light therapy. Blue light fights against acne-causing bacteria to combat blemishes. Amber light brightens and soothes; red light supports collagen production; and near-infrared light targets the deepest layer of the skin to repair and strengthen. Our tester mentioned that the mask was very easy to incorporate into his daily routine. He used the mask twice a day, with the amber-light rejuvenation setting in the morning and red-light wrinkle setting at night, and noticed a slightly brighter complexion after four weeks of use. “I really loved it and will continue to use it for years to come,” he said.
Unlike American microcurrent devices, this one from Korea has multiple modes that enable you to depuff but also enhance the absorption of products. Our tester raved about this product and uses it up to three times a week. “I have really bad water retention and this tool snatches my face in a way that I have never seen. Honestly, it works so well that sometimes I worry I look too snatched and that it will look off with the rest of my body.”
It’s the same CurrentBody LED Mask that’s been a cult favorite for years, but this one boasts deep-infrared lights that help penetrate further and a different type of silicone that ensures that the mask won’t slip off. Our tester consistently used this mask for 10 minutes before bed for months and noticed a marked difference. “My skin is clearer, and while I’m still fairly young, I feel like any fine lines I was seeing before are more faded.”
Best LED Mask for Acne

CurrentBody Skin LED Blue Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2

This mask was specially created for those with acne or who get spots that linger for months. A combination of blue and red light works to target bacteria, halt spots before they begin, and brighten. Our tester found that this was an easy way to play defense against breakouts. “You have to use it fairly consistently, but I did notice that my acne scars lightened, and I had fewer zits pop up during PMS.”
Made of medical-grade silicone, this beginner red-light mask was praised for being easy to wear. More than 50 bulbs are embedded within the mask, which has 10- and 20-minute treatment times. Reported our tester: “This really improved the redness around my nose and the fine lines and dehydration lines around my eyes and forehead.”
I see your ice roller (or even the cold spoon currently in your freezer) and raise you this device, which combines a copper cooling tip with sonic vibration to depuff the face. Our tester said, “I love cold products in the morning—I have an ice roller and an ice mask I use interchangeably in addition to my gua sha. But this gave my jawline and cheeks that little extra definition. I feel snatched when I use this.”
Best LED Lip Mask

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare DRx SpectraLite LipWare Pro LED Device
This tool uses red-light technology to target the fine lines and wrinkles on your lips for a smooth, voluminous look sans lip filler or plumping gloss. This tool has 56 red-light bulbs and an automatic timer that turns off after the three-minute session is over. For the best results, it is recommended to use the mask once a day. Our tester liked that she was able to use this in conjunction with her other tools. With consistent daily use over a three-week period, she noticed the fine lines on her lips fading and even thought her lips looked slightly more voluminous.
The deeper the LED bulb color, the stronger the mask. This one features burgundy-colored bulbs, the most saturated color on the market, to ensure optimal energy absorption. It even made an appearance on Carey Mulligan in Beef season 2. Our tester said, “This is such a calming part of my evening. I usually throw it on while winding down or reading a book. The mask itself is comfortable and doesn’t feel intimidating, heavy, or overly clinical, which I appreciated. I have noticed my skin looking more refreshed and balanced after using it consistently. It definitely makes my routine feel elevated and a little more luxurious.”
This handheld tool uses tiny amounts of electrical current for a visible lifting effect. It has three different intensity settings and is painless. According to the tester, it felt similar to a face massage. If you’re looking for instant gratification, this is the device to try—our tester noted that she looked smooth and glowy immediately after using the tool for just five minutes and liked that she was able to adjust the level of intensity every time she used it. “After two weeks of using the tool consistently, my face looks more lifted and toned,” she said.
Pairing with an app, this device takes you through different routines to tone skin using microcurrent energy. Our tester said, “It only takes about two minutes per side of your face, and after just one side, I looked in the mirror and was shocked by the immediately noticeable difference. My eyes looked less puffy, my eyebrows seemed to have been elevated by at least a centimeter, and my cheekbones looked more sculpted. If you want a tool that will give you instant results before a big event, this is worth trying.”
When the original LYMA came out in 2022, it made waves. It was the first FDA-approved face tool that uses cold laser technology, or low-level laser therapy (which the brand claims is more powerful than LED) to boost collagen, curb inflammation, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The Pro version is three times as big, so it’s faster to use and can be used on the body too. Our tester noted that although the device was a bit heavy, with consistent use for four weeks, it helped even out her skin tone, made her face and neck appear slightly tighter, and made her complexion more radiant.
V-shaped prongs allow this electric muscle stimulation device from Korea to glide along the face to help depuff and contour. Use it on one of the three settings to wake up morning skin. Our tester first attempted this on just one-half of her face. After noticing how much more lifted and tighter the treated side looked, she quickly used it on her whole face.
The original device was used by everyone from Hailey Bieber to Kylie Jenner and praised for its variety of skin-enhancing modes (including microcurrent, zit-blasting, and more). Like the newest version of an iPhone, this one improves on the original with two additional modes and more power. “My eyebrow started twitching during the microcurrent mode, and my face looked lifted and more tight, even after just a few minutes,” our tester raved. “I used the Mask mode right after, and that one gave me a glass skin-like effect.”
Best Acne Tool
A real doughnut might exacerbate acne, but this pastry-shaped tool helps prevent breakouts entirely by using microcurrents to diminish blemishes and boost collagen for clear, healthy skin. “Manually maneuvering and twisting the device around my breakouts was a bit tiresome in the beginning, but after using it for a while, it’s now easy and comfortable in my hands,” our tester said. “My bumps felt flattened and I had fewer breakouts.”
