While many gravitate toward bright, light dresses in the summer, Angelina Jolie stuck to her signature: a good black evening dress.

At a screening of her upcoming film Couture in New York City on Tuesday, the actress stepped out in a strapless Tom Ford gown that offered a warm-weather take on the wardrobe staple. The design featured a sculpted sweetheart neckline and fluid floor-length skirt, giving the dress a softer, more pared-back feel.

Jolie styled the gown with an oversize cream coat from Calvin Klein, black aviator sunglasses, and pointed-toe heels.

The actress has spent years building a wardrobe around a tightly edited palette of neutral colors and regularly wears dark dresses out. Last fall, Jolie wore a pared-back black slip dress to the San Sebastian premiere of Couture as just one example.

Jolie’s appearance comes amid promotion for Couture, written and directed by Alice Winocour. Earlier this week, Jolie spoke about the film’s message in an interview with People.

“Alice is a wonderful director and approaches the stories of the women in Couture with sensitivity and hope. The film is not about an end for my character but rather about a renewed desire to live life until your last breath, which particularly resonates with me at this time in my life,” she said.
