Gov’t behind Angel Maxine’s attack on me due to my anti-gay bill comments — Ntim Fordjour cries

The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is behind attacks against him due to his advocacy for the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill under the current administration.

His claims come after transgender musician Angel Maxine allegedly accused him of engaging in a sexual relationship, an allegation the MP has strongly denied.

Rev. Fordjour, through his lawyers, has issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding a retraction and apology, warning of legal action for defamation.

Although Angel Maxine’s legal team has argued that the comments were just satire and political expression, they have refused to retract and apologise.

Speaking on Accra-based Starr FM on Wednesday, April 29, Rev. Fordjour said he believes the musician’s actions are being influenced by political forces.

The MP stressed that the refusal to retract reinforces what he believes is a coordinated attempt to tarnish his image.

“People who are behind him and doing all these things, [is] the government machinery… I have cause to believe so,” he said.

He further pointed to the involvement of Angel Maxine’s lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, whom he described as closely linked to the NDC and government activities.

“There’s no suspicion. I mean, it is clear when Angel Maxine started going on his madness on this matter… it was Jubilee House presidential staffers who started promoting this matter,” he alleged.

Rev. Fordjour also suggested that the timing of the controversy and political developments around the anti-LGBTQ+ bill indicate a coordinated agenda against him.

He emphasised that his position on the bill has made him a target but warned that he will not be intimidated or deterred from his advocacy.
