Kate Middleton Says Her Cancer Is in Remission After Visiting Hospital Where She Received Treatment

Kate Middleton returned to the public eye today, stepping out for her first engagement of the new year. The Princess of Wales chose a very important location to her: Royal Marsden Hospital, the facility where she received cancer treatment last year. She revealed today that she is becoming royal patron of the hospital.

Following her visit, she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that her cancer is in remission. She said:

I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year.

My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.

We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.

In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.

It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.

According to Hello!, Kate commented on how it felt to return to the building. “I was just saying, coming in the front entrance here, having made so many quiet, private visits, actually it’s quite nice,” she shared.

She later told a parent of a patient, “I wanted to come and show my support for the amazing work that’s going on here and for those who are going through treatment and having such a hard time.”

The Princess of Wales chose a burgundy look for the occasion, pairing a sweater with a maxi skirt in the hue. Kate also wore burgundy for her first event after completing chemotherapy, so it’s a special color to the princess.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson touched on why Kate chose to visit Royal Marsden Hospital for her first solo engagement of 2025, saying, “The Princess wanted to make the journey to both show her gratitude to the incredible team, but also highlight the world leading care and treatment the Marsden provides.”

Hello! also revealed that Kate’s husband, Prince William, who is president of the Royal Marsden NHS (National Health Service) Foundation Trust, did not join her “because she wanted to visit independently to reflect on her own experience.”

In September, Kate announced she had completed chemotherapy. “Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus,” she said in a statement. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.

“I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”
