She and the cast of Jacques Audiard’s film Emilia Pérez, Karla Sofia Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, and Edgar Ramírez, received the festival’s Vanguard Award that evening.

In an interview with W Magazine this week, Gomez shared what attracted her to the script.

“Pure curiosity,” she said. “I love working with incredible filmmakers—that’s usually what I’m drawn to the most. When I read the script, I thought it was extremely thought-provoking, visceral, and groundbreaking. But some films may not turn out that way. I really felt that Audiard is just so spectacular that the movie was in really good hands.”
