Angelina Jolie and Her Daughter, Vivienne, Attend the Premiere of Their Broadway Show

Angelina Jolie and her 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, have been working on a new Broadway show together, The Outsiders. They celebrated the opening night for the project yesterday, attending the premiere side-by-side.

The premiere marked a rare red carpet appearance for the mother and daughter. Jolie wore a silk dress with a gold cape, while Jolie-Pitt opted for a blue jumpsuit. They posed with Justin Levine, who wrote the book and score for the new musical. The play is adapted from S.E. Hinton’s novel of the same name.

Levine and Jolie-Pitt matched their outfits in a show of solidarity:

Jolie is a producer for The Outsiders, while Jolie-Pitt acted as Jolie’s volunteer assistant for the production. Jolie spoke to People at last night’s premiere about how Jolie-Pitt is the “biggest theater head” in the family. Jolie-Pitt has five other siblings: her 15-year-old twin brother, Knox; 17-year-old Shiloh; 19-year-old Zahara; 20-year-old Pax; and 22-year-old Maddox. Pax joined them at the premiere.

When it comes to theater, Jolie-Pitt wins “hands down,” her mother told People. She then proceeded to compliment her daughter’s eye for details and work ethic. “She’ll correct me. She’ll say, ‘Didn’t you read the memo? We have to do this, we have to go through this.’ She’s been a really tough assistant. She takes it very, very seriously.”

In a 2019 essay Jolie wrote for ELLE, the actress shared the advice she gave Jolie-Pitt and her sisters, as they grew up. “I often tell my daughters that the most important thing they can do is to develop their minds,” the actress said. “You can always put on a pretty dress, but it doesn’t matter what you wear on the outside if your mind isn’t strong. There is nothing more attractive—you might even say enchanting—than a woman with an independent will and her own opinions.”
