Prince William and Kate Middleton Issue New Statement After She Revealed Her Cancer Diagnosis

On Friday, March 22, Kate Middleton released a video in which she revealed her cancer diagnosis. The Prince and Princess of Wales have now shared a new statement to thank the public for the support and well wishes since she shared the news.

Coming from Kensington Palace, the couple said in their message, “The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message. They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.”

In her original video, the Princess of Wales explained that when she underwent abdominal surgery in January, her condition was at first thought to be non-cancerous, however “tests after the procedure found cancer had been present.”

She went on, “My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I’m now in the early stages of that treatment. This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.”

Kate continued to say, “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful,” and added that she is “getting stronger every day by focussing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body and spirit.”

The Princess also thanked Prince William for being “a great source of comfort and reassurance.”
