Margot Robbie’s Little Black Balmain Dress Has a Surprising Skirt
Margot Robbie ended her awards season weekend with a second unconventional little black dress. Just one day after attending the SAG Awards in a black and pink Schiaparelli couture number, Robbie went to the Producers Guild Awards in a black and white Balmain minidress. The piece stood out at the ceremony with its pointed, plunging collar and structured skirt. Robbie let the outfit be her focal point of her look, wearing a nude lip and styling her hair down straight with a center part.
Robbie was an executive producer on Barbie in addition to being a lead actress on the project. Last month, Robbie and the co-founders of her production company LuckyChap, husband Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, spoke to Variety about how they plan to build on the success of recent projects like Barbie and Saltburn.
“Originality is definitely the key,” Robbie explained. “But the thing about being original is you can’t do the thing that worked before. As much as we’re trying to celebrate the moment we’re in right now, our minds immediately go to what’s next. You can’t be original again; you have to be original every time. Whether it’s I, Tonya—the tone of that was so completely original—or Barbie, they’re all very bold. We swing for the fences, and sometimes you hit it out of the park and it’s amazing. But even if you didn’t hit it out of the park, you can’t not keep taking those big swings.”
When asked whether they receive pushback from studios, she added, “When you’re in that production meeting on set and you’ve got everyone telling you that you shouldn’t trust that crazy decision—and all the past comps are telling you, ‘No, play it safe right now; don’t take this leap’—you have to be brave and keep taking that leap. I’ve just seen it time and time again, where there was a fork in the road and we completely backed our filmmaker and something really good happened. It could have been so easy to play it safe and do the thing that ‘should’ work or ‘could’ work or on the page makes more sense, but that’s when you start making mediocre stuff.”
