Why Footage of Selena Gomez Talking With Taylor Swift Sparked Kylie Jenner Drama Rumors
The rumors there might have been a little drama at the Golden Globes? Currently unfounded. But here’s what happened: Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Keleigh Sperry were filmed talking during the broadcast, and Sperry and Swift expressed shock over something Gomez told them.
So the internet did what it always does and tried to fill in the blanks, despite having no evidence.
Fans speculated that Sperry said, “With Timothée [Chalamet]?” based on her lip movements. A couple fans imagined the conversation could have been about Gomez trying to get a photo with her A Rainy Day in New York co-star Chalamet but being blocked by his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. There is absolutely no proof of this though, as the video had no audio.
One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, even pointed that out: “mind you this is speculation aka made up, nobody actually knows what they were talking about lol.” Still, the rumor spread and got media attention.
A source close to Gomez later told People that Gomez “was absolutely not referencing anything about Timothée or Kylie.” She “never even saw or spoke to them” at the Globes, the insider added.
Jenner and Gomez debunked drama rumors about them last February after Jenner was accused of making fun of Gomez’s eyebrows with Hailey Bieber, Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber’s wife, on Instagram.
Jenner commented on TikTok, “This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever and I didn’t see her eyebrow posts! U guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly.”
Gomez wrote herself, “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”
Chalamet and Jenner largely kept to themselves during the Globes. They were filmed kissing during their first award-show date night. Jenner was photographed with Barbie’s Greta Gerwig and Hari Nef though, and Julia Garner was snapped talking to Chalamet and Jenner at their table.
