Rebel Moon—Part 2: The Scargiver: What We Know So Far

Zack Snyder has made his ambitions clear: He wants his own Star Wars—“a massive IP and a universe that can be built out,” as he told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2021—and Rebel Moon is his shoot-for-a-galaxy-even-farther-away attempt at just that. By the time the ambitious sci-fi film landed on Netflix screens just before Christmas, Snyder had already filmed and finalized a sequel to follow in the new year, called Rebel Moon—Part 2: The Scargiver, communicating a clear plan for maintaining momentum on the massive streamer.

But the impact of Part 1: A Child of Fire—a flawed if immersive hodge-podge of galactic lore—alone might well determine if the Rebel Moon-iverse earns any further real estate beyond its sequel. In the meantime, here’s what we know about the next chapter.

When does Rebel Moon—Part 2: The Scargiver come out?

Rebel Moon—Part 2: The Scargiver will stream on Netflix in the spring, starting on April 19, 2024. Snyderheads can also look forward to two director’s cuts, a.k.a. “Snyder Cuts,” of Parts 1 and 2, featuring two additional hours of total footage. The first of these cuts is slotted for early 2024.

What will Rebel Moon—Part 2 be about?

Given Part 1: A Child of Fire’s cliffhanger ending, expect Part 2 to pick up soon after the events of the first film. Kora (Sofia Boutella) has now returned to her home planet of Veldt, though this time she’s brought a few trigger-happy friends: Prince Tarak (Staz Nair), General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), Nemesis (Bae Doona), Devra Bloodaxe (Cleopatra Coleman), and the only Veldt native among them, Gunnar (Michiel Huisman). Believing they’ve vanquished the imperial Motherworld’s cruel Admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) in a battle—prompted after the betrayal of bounty hunter Kai (Charlie Hunnam)—the rebel crew head back to the peaceful grain fields on Veldt. But the preview footage for Part 2 makes clear that, after Noble’s pseudo-resurrection, the war will only intensify…and it will take place on Veldt itself. As Snyder promised in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “There will be a rematch!”

Per the title, fans can also expect further insight into Kora’s time as a Motherworld soldier; her relationship with senator-turned-Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) as his adopted daughter; and the events that earned her the nicknamed “Scargiver.” Oh, and Kora and Gunnar will finally kiss. Good for them!

Are there more Rebel Moon movies (or shows) planned?

While Rebel Moon—Part 3 has yet to be confirmed, know that Snyder is grasping at numerous opportunities to turn this vehicle into a bona fide franchise. Per The Hollywood Reporter, between the release of Parts 1 and 2, “There will be a graphic novel, a podcast and a photo book. Then, fingers crossed, a third film.” In an interview with SFX Magazine in November 2023, Snyder revealed his desires for a whole “trilogy of sequels,” making for a total of four entries in the main Rebel Moon film series (or eight, if you count all the potential “Snyder Cuts”).

Regardless of the rollout plan, he does know the series’ ultimate ending. As he told SFX, “I’m not exactly sure how long it would take to get there, but we do know where it goes.”

This story will be updated.
