George and Amal Clooney Gave Rare Comments About Their Twins and 9-Year Marriage at the Albie Awards

George and Amal Clooney assembled a truly A-list crowd in New York City last night for the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s second annual Albie Awards—and spoke a little about their family on the red carpet. As is her wont, Amal stole the spotlight in a white Versace gown adorned with rhinestones. George wore a black suit alongside her.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, the star couple offered some details about their six-year-old twins Ella and Alexander. Amal told the outlet that George has taken their music taste into a surprising direction. “He’s started playing heavy metal music, actually,” she said.

“The kids are listening to heavy metal,” George added. “They’re headbangers. It’s not fully heavy metal. It’s just heavy enough that they can bang their heads.” George then quipped, “Not that we’re in any way musical. We have no musical talent….We ruined the gene pool for them.”

George and Amal also discussed their marriage with Entertainment Tonight. They were a little self-deprecating about it. “She inspires me in everything she does,” George started earnestly. “And by the way, yesterday was our ninth anniversary! Said it wouldn’t last, you know what I’m saying?”

He then asked Amal, “Do you feel like a power couple, my love?”

She replied, “Not really.”

George spoke more seriously about why the two are happy to use their star power to put the spotlight on others. “We’re lucky that we get to focus a lot of the attention we get on people that need attention ‘cause we don’t,” he said. “So, it’s fun to be able to. Especially tonight. This is a good way to spend this, you know, this equity, which is to say, ‘Let’s shine a light on people who may very well end up in jail for standing up for justice and standing up for democracy.’”

Honorees at the event included Congolese gynecologist and human rights advocate Dr. Denis Mukwege, Iranian journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, and the organization Thai Lawyers for Human Rights.

Other celebrities who attended included Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Scarlett Johansson, Greta Gerwig, Emily Blunt, Sofia Vergara, Julianne Moore, and Kate Moss.
