Matt Healy Appears to Make Some Sort of Apology On Stage Following Taylor Swift Break Up

On Wednesday night, The 1975’s Matty Healy dipped his toe into some performance art while on stage, and some fans are wondering if his new act might be a reference to the recent split with Taylor Swift. Healy’s band had a tour stop in Dublin, Ireland, and the musician did a solo set before the full show started.

Then he took a can of black spray paint and wrote the question, “Sorry?” on the backdrop. The act was accompanied by a cover of Leon Russell’s “A Song For You,” performed by bandmate Jamie Squire.

What could it all mean?

Healy and Swift reportedly split earlier this week, after seeming to have a hot and heavy relationship throughout May that could have started weeks earlier. The pair dated briefly in 2014 as well, but since then Swift entered into a long term relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. After six years together, they split in early 2023, and Swift appeared to be on the rebound with the British frontman.

Neither Healy nor Swift has officially commented on their break up or their romance in general. The Midnights singer did release a new song in May which many believe to be about Alwyn, titled “You’re Losing Me.”

A source talking to The Mirror claimed Alwyn was “disappointed and embarrassed” by the new track, which paints a vivid picture of two people drifting apart in a romantic relationship. It particularly focuses on the question of marriage, something many wondered about after the coupled passed the five-year mark without becoming engaged. The song implies she was never asked.

The insider added that Alwyn was “under the impression she’d spare him the Harry Styles treatment.”

They continued, “He’s respectfully asking her to let him move on — and shut up!”

Allegedly, Alwyn also found it “rude” that Swift displayed her “tacky new romance” with Healy so soon after their break up.
