What We Know So Far About the Red, White & Royal Blue Movie

International diplomacy gets a new, uh, definition this summer when the First Son of the United States and the Prince of England collide in Prime Video’s Red, White & Royal Blue. Based on the bestselling book of the same name by Casey McQuiston, the film follows two young men from opposite sides of the ocean but similar political pedigree: One is Alex Claremont-Diaz, son of the President of the United States, and the other is Prince Henry, son of the British monarch. Neither is a fan of the other, at least until a scandal forces them to collaborate in a PR stunt-turned-love-affair with the potential to destabilize both their governments. In other words, they can’t exactly ghost if things get awkward.

As the film heads toward an August release, here’s everything we know about the project so far.

When does Red, White & Royal Blue come out?

The film is set to drop on Amazon Prime Video August 11, 2023. The date was first revealed on April 26, 2023, with actor Taylor Zakhar Perez sharing the movie poster, captioned, “Ready to make some history? ????????????????”

Who’s in the cast?

Perez, known for his parts in both The Kissing Booth sequels, will star as American Alex, while Nicholas Galitzine will step in as the British Prince Henry. (Such a royal role will be familiar to Galitzine, last seen as Prince Robert in the 2021 live-action Cinderella, starring Camila Cabello.)

Additional cast announcements include Uma Thurman as POTUS Ellen Claremont, a.k.a Alex’s mom, and as-yet-undisclosed roles for Stephen Fry, Sarah Shahi, Ellie Bamber, Rachel Hilson, Clifton Collins Jr., Sharon D. Clarke, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Aneesh Sheth, Polo Morin, Ahmed Elhaj, and Thomas Flynn.

Is there a trailer?

Not just yet, but plenty of behind-the-scenes images tease the warm and fuzzy feelings to come. Director Matthew López shared a tribute to the lead actors after filming wrapped in August 2022, writing, “There’s not a single scene in the movie in which one or both of them are not in. They gave us all a daily master class on what it takes to carry a movie.”

How can I watch?

Starting August 11, you can stream the film on Amazon Prime Video—for free, if you have a Amazon Prime subscription.

In the meantime, you can read McQuiston’s original novel.
