Watch Lizzo Go All Out During Her Grammys 2023 Performance of ‘About Damn Time’ and ‘Special’

Lizzo fully committed to giving Grammys viewers a spectacle with her performance of “About Damn Time” and “Special” during the ceremony. The singer wore a black mini dress with a bejeweled corset top. A gospel choir complemented her in black and gold ensembles. The vocals, from Lizzo’s to the choir’s, were simply incredible all around.

Fans on Twitter shared clips of the performance shortly after it ended, with one pointing out that Taylor Swift was filmed cheering for Lizzo:

Lizzo is up for five Grammys tonight: Record of the Year (“About Damn Time”), Album of the Year (Special), Song of the Year (“About Damn Time”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“About Damn Time”), and Best Pop Vocal Album (Special).

In October 2022, Lizzo spoke to Vanity Fair about feeling the need to prove herself with her album Special. “I had to prove myself with Special that I can make good music,” she said. When asked if she considers herself more grounded than her peers, she replied that the answer doesn’t really matter as much as how she’s feeling about her life now. “I don’t know how they’re doing. They could be as grounded as me or I could be seemingly grounded, or I could be flipping out,” she said. “Look, I’m having a great time, but the things that I’ve experienced that I have to debunk or clarify, just by simply existing, looking like me, is an indication of progress. But it’s just the beginning of it. I was almost 30 when all this shit started popping up on me. I had a chance to fuck up as a teenager and in my 20s…. I’m so glad I had a chance to grow up and then get hit with all this shit.”
