Taylor Swift’s Reaction to Harry Styles Being Heckled by Beyoncé Fans During His Grammys Speech Is Going Viral

Harry Styles won Album of the Year last night at the Grammys for Harrys House, a surprise win in a category where Beyoncé, Adele, Kendrick Lamar, and more were nominated. The internet was shocked, and some members of the Grammys audience themselves made their displeasure known that Styles beat out Beyoncé.

Styles gave his acceptance speech while being heckled by some fans who shouted “Beyoncé” and “Beyoncé should’ve won.” On TikTok, footage of this is going viral, along with his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s reaction. Swift stood throughout Styles’ entire speech, watching him intently. She appeared to look down when she heard heckling. BuzzFeed noted that some fans felt the moment may have reminded her of when Kanye West infamously interrupted her 2009 VMAs speech to say Beyoncé should’ve won.

Swift was particularly supportive of Styles on Grammy night. Not only did she give him standing ovations during his performance and acceptance speeches, but she even snuck over to his table at one point during the show to talk to him. The Hollywood Reporter’s Chris Gardner reported that she had a “long talk” with him and hugged him. She was also photographed putting her hand on his back by the evening’s photographers.

While Beyoncé made history at the Grammys last night as the ceremony’s most decorated artist ever, she has never won Album of the Year. Her not winning for Lemonade or Renaissance were both major upsets to fans, particularly. Adele, who won in 2017 over Beyoncé for her album 25, even famously refused to accept the award onstage because she felt Beyoncé should’ve won.

“I can’t possibly accept this award, and I’m very humbled and very grateful and gracious but my life is Beyoncé, and the album to me, the Lemonade album, Beyoncé, was so monumental, and so well thought-out,” Adele said during her acceptance speech. “And so beautiful and soul-baring and we all got to see another side of you that you don’t always let us see, and we appreciate that. And all us artists adore you. You are our light. And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my Black friends feel is empowering, and you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you. I always have. And I always will. I appreciate it.”

Styles acknowledged his Album of the Year win was a surprise to him backstage, as these awards are never predictable. When asked about whether he personally expected a Beyoncé win by reporters, he said, “You never know with this stuff. I don’t think you can look at any of the nominees and not feel like they’re deserving. When I look at this category, it’s all people who have inspired me at different times, so it’s not like—y’know, you would understand anyone winning. And yeah, I’m really grateful that they chose us.”
