A Complete Timeline of Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum’s Relationship

Since 2021, actors Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz have clearly been enjoying a romantic connection; they just barely ever let anyone see it. Both celebrities had relatively recently left their long-term relationships when they started seeing one another and were trying to keep things as private as possible with their own relationship.

Tatum divorced his Step Up costar Jenna Dewan, who he first met while filming the 2006 movie. The two were married in 2009 and had their daughter Everly in 2013. Their divorce was finalized in 2019, and they have continued to successfully co-parent.

Kravitz got married in May 2019 to her boyfriend of three years, Karl Glusman, and filed for divorce in December 2020. The divorce was finalized in August 2021, the first month she was spotted out with Tatum.

Here, everything that has come out about their relationship thus far.

2017

Both Tatum and Kravitz had voice roles in 2017’s The Lego Batman Movie. While voice acting is generally recorded solo, they supposedly crossed paths way back when while working on the film.

January 2021

Shortly after news broke of Kravitz’s divorce, several outlets, including E! News, denied social media speculation that she was romantically linked to Tatum, noting that the pair were planning to work together soon.

June 2021

Though Kravitz and Tatum had met in the past, they really connected when working together on her directorial debut, Pussy Island. She told Deadline that he was her first choice to play the film’s protagonist.

“[He was the one] I thought of when I wrote this character,” she said. “I just knew from Magic Mike and his live shows, I got the sense he’s a true feminist and I wanted to collaborate with someone who was clearly interested in exploring this subject matter.”

Tatum said in the same interview, “When Zoë called me about this, I was shocked. … I’d watched her in movies, knew she produced High Fidelity and had seen that, but I didn’t know she was creating on a level like this, where she wanted to direct. This came out of nowhere and the subject matter made me say, ‘Wait, why are you thinking about me for this?’ No one gives me a chance to play a role like this. Everybody throws me down a different alley and expects me to do a certain thing. It was scary and liberating, just to be able to have a free conversation, where I was allowed to mess up, and say the wrong things.”

They also shared some flirtatious back-and-forth over Tatum’s sartorial choices.

“When someone can just come out and tell me I should not be wearing Crocs, and is so adamant about it, she completely convinced me, and I never wear Crocs anymore,” he said to which Kravitz replied, “I was just trying to be a good friend, Chan!”

The Magic Mike actor added, “I get it, but I totally loved Crocs for a hot second, and in one hang, she was like, ‘You can’t ever do that again.’ And I said, ‘Okay, fine.’”

July 2021

Kravitz brought Tatum into a conversation on her dad Lenny Kravitz’s Instagram, asking, “You auditioning for MM3?”

While lots of people would be happy to see Lenny in a Magic Mike sequel, Tatum seemed most excited of all. After Kravitz tagged him in the post, he commented, “Oh s—t!! Doing the lords work i see!! Will be calling you shortly to get into your schedule my friend. Hehehe.”

Lenny responded that he’s “been ready” to shake it for MM3 and told Tatum, “@channingtatum Peace my man.”

August 2021

A source told Us Weekly in August 2021 that “things turned romantic fast” between the pair after “working together so closely.”

The new couple made their public debut that month when Kravitz was photographed clinging to Tatum as he biked through NYC, making them into an instant meme. A few days later they were seen drinking iced coffees and picking up groceries together.

At the time, E! was told by a source, “There’s more than a friendship going on with Channing and Zoë. They are spending a lot of time together and having fun. They are more than just close friends or co-stars. Their relationship has grown into more.”

And then Tatum startig following four Zoë Kravitz fan accounts, as well as Kravitz herself on Instagram.

September 2021

Without going “red carpet official,” Tatum and Kravitz really seemed like they were at the Met Gala together and were definitely spotted together. Tatum wore a black Versace suit. Kravitz stunned in a sheer diamond-encrusted dress designed by Saint Laurent.

There were plenty of other hints that night that they were a couple, like sharing a stylist for the event. The stylist, Andrew Mukamal, shared an image of Kravitz in her sheer metal Saint Laurent dress on his Instagram page:

Right after posting a pic of Tatum in his Versace suit, placing them side-by-side on the grid:

Tatum then shared an image originally posted by musician Alicia Keys on his Instagram Stories, featuring him and Kravitz with Keys and singer Moses Sumney.

He captioned the image, “This night! No body [sic] wanted to trifle with us on the dance floor music and vibe was next level.”

And then Vogue photographer Daniel Arnold caught a candid pic of them together, with Tatum on the phone, casually holding Kravitz’s purse.

Also in September, a source told People that they have been enjoying the city together.

“They spent the weekend in NYC, strolled around the city, met up with friends and visited the Guggenheim Museum,” the source said. “They looked very happy. They have this cute and flirty chemistry.”

October 2021

In October, Tatum and Kravitz were finally seen holding hands and walking through New York City. In one picture, Tatum threw an arm around her shoulders. They were bundled up in cozy fall layers, Tatum in a cream hoodie with black slacks, and Kravitz in a black duster coat, white turtleneck sweater, knit cap, and sunglasses.

The pair also celebrated Halloween in a now-deleted Instagram post, in which they dressed as characters from 1976’s Taxi Driver. She also re-shared a photo of some fans recreating her and Tatum’s iconic BMX ride, typing, “El Oh El. Yes,” over the image.

December 2021

For Kravitz’s 33rd birthday, Tatum “liked” a post from her father, Lenny, although he did not share one of his own.

March 2022

March was a big month for the couple. A source told Page Six that things were getting more serious and that Kravitz is “looking toward the future” with Tatum. The source claimed Kravitz has said that she “wouldn’t mind having one kid.”

“Things are going great with Channing, and she is incredibly happy,” the source said. “She is in a good place career-wise, and he has a good record of being a dad.”

Kravitz spoke to ELLE in its March 2022 issue about her feelings on starting a family, saying she doesn’t feel pressured now.

“We all go from being the baby, where you’re like, ‘I have so much time.’ And then, all of a sudden, your gynecologist is like, ‘Want to freeze your eggs?’ And I’m like, ‘I hadn’t even thought about that,’” she said. “But I don’t feel pressured to have kids by a certain time, if I ever have kids. This idea of like, you’re 30. You’re a grown-up. Now you’re supposed to have kids and stop having fun, because that’s for children—I bought that for a second. It was like, ‘I don’t go out anymore. I just make roast chickens.’ But I still want to go on adventures, have fun nights, and see the sunrise. It’s been an interesting journey of remembering that there’s no finish line that I have to get to by a certain time. Playful, mischievous behavior is something I always hope to have, even when I’m 70 years old. The point of being alive is to experience life and play with it. There’s still so much fun to be had.”

Kravitz didn’t confirm her relationship to Tatum. But she was asked about the paparazzi pics of them holding hands, and said, “I’m happy.”

She also talked about Tatum as an actor, saying, “Looking at his work and hearing him speak about Magic Mike and the live show, I’m like, I think he’s a feminist. You need to be so far from who this is, where it’s not scary. And I don’t think we’ve ever seen him play someone dark. I’m excited to see him do that.”

Then Kravitz’s stepdad, Jason Momoa, shared some pics of himself with Tatum heading to the premiere of Kravitz’s blockbuster film The Batman.

“SO EXCITED @channingtatum and I are on our way to see our ZOZO,” he wrote in the caption. “Finally @thebatman premiere.”

July 2022

In July, Tatum gave Kravitz her own helping of praise by complimenting her directing skills.

“I’m in awe,” the actor told Entertainment Tonight. “She’s doing better than I did on our first movie with Dog. I mean, jeez, we barely survived, and she’s just killing it.”

Tatum added that his girlfriend “saw” him, explaining, “She’s got a weird gift for that. She sees right through a lot of people’s stuff and really, just who they are to her is really simple. She’s one of the more intentional people I’ve ever met in my life.”

November 2022

Kravitz told GQ that Tatum really supported her on set for Pussy Island.

“He’s just a wonderful human,” she explained. “He makes me laugh, and we both really love art and talking about art and the exploration of why we do what we do. We love to watch a film and break it down and talk about it and challenge each other.”

She added, “Whether it was making me tea or pouring me a drink or going to whip someone into shape or whatever—he really was my protector, and it was really wonderful and sweet. I think if you can do something like that together, it’s a good test. And we came out even stronger.”

About keeping her relationship quiet, she added, “You want to keep it sacred and private as long as you can. So that you don’t have to even think about what the world thinks about it.”

January 2023

Tatum talked about how he reconnected with Kravitz in an interview with Vanity Fair, saying they “lost touch” for a while after they first discussed Pussy Island.

“Then, cut to two and a half years later, they had a new draft, and it was great. I was like, ‘Wow. You are really saying something,’” he said. “That’s the kind of person you want to create with, that really has this perspective they’re constantly digging for.”

He continued, “Relationships are hard for me, even though I am a bit of a monogamist. In business, I have no real fear of anything being destroyed. But heart things, when it comes to people I love, I have a really hard time. I end up trying too hard, you know?”

He then tried to brush off his decisions to follow all those Kravitz fan accounts.

“I have no chill,” he said. “I was just seeing what she was up to! Also, I didn’t know anyone would know.”
