Dua Lipa Wears Sheer Netted Dress—with Patrick Star Nipple Covers
Dua Lipa’s street style has just taken a cartoonish turn.
The Grammy-winning singer shared photos of her latest look on Instagram, in which she cut a fashionable figure in a see-through bubblegum pink netted slip dress and star-shaped nipple covers featuring Patrick Star, a character from the Nickelodeon cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants.
The statement piece hails from the spring 2023 ready-to-wear collection of GCDS—and is just one of many pieces that took inspiration from the residents of Bikini Bottom. “It’s harder to be taken seriously when you’re making funny clothes,” GCDS designer and cofounder Giuliano Calza said. “The important thing, in trying to be taken seriously, is to keep a good dose of irony.””
Lipa’s netted halter-neck dress came with a pair of matching fingerless gloves. She styled the look with more pink, including pink underwear and a pink manicure (aptly embellished with hot pink stars). To finish the ensemble, she wore a metallic blue chain earring pendant from Eéra.
She captioned the look, “down undaaaa in bikini bottom ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.”
The “Don’t Start Now” singer has always had a penchant for pushing the boundaries of her experimental wardrobe. Whether she’s dressed in a flamboyant golden crochet co-ord or a pair of pierced UGG boots, her willingness to thwart sartorial convention has come to define her style.
Lipa reflected on the art of dressing up in a 2018 interview with Refinery29.
“I’ve never really wanted to put myself in a box and say, ‘This is my style and these are my style staples.’ I love to experiment and play around,” she said. “It’s kind of like music: The sound doesn’t just include the face of the artist. And the artist should wear the clothes, not the other way around. Fashion can’t be forced.”
