Inside Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik’s Private Relationship 8+ Months After Their Split
Gigi Hadid gave her ex-boyfriend and daughter Khai’s dad Zayn Malik a very public, sweet Instagram shout-out on Father’s Day. Behind the scenes, a source told Us Weekly, Hadid and Malik have built a positive co-parenting relationship despite its “certain challenges and ups and downs.” Malik and Hadid’s breakup was reported in October, following allegations that Malik had a dispute with Hadid’s mom. The two dated on and off for nearly six years leading up to their most recent split.
Hadid and Malik see each other regularly, Us’s source said: “They’re not living together, but Zayn visits Gigi and Khai at the farm in Pennsylvania a lot when they’re there. They like to spend time away from the city [New York City] because it’s more safe, quiet, and exclusive.”
“Coparenting comes with certain challenges and ups and downs,” the source added, but Malik and Hadid are “doing the best they can to make it work.” The former couple splits up their parenting time, ensuring Khai is still “very much part” of her dad’s life.
Malik and Hadid themselves “have a loving and caring relationship despite being broken up. [They] don’t hate each other, that’s for sure.”
In early November, a source told People that even if Hadid and Malik never reconcile, Hadid wants him to be a very present father. “Yolanda is very upset with Zayn [amid allegations that he ‘shoved’ her], but Gigi has made it clear that her daughter needs her dad,” a source close to Hadid said. “Gigi will do everything she can to make sure they co-parent in a civil way.”
In October, Malik pled no contest to four criminal offenses of harassment in his alleged September dispute with Hadid’s mother, Yolanda. He released a statement on Twitter explaining why he did, writing:
As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter [Khai] to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart. In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago. This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been “leaked” to the press. I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves.
