Uromi robbery: Obaseki vows to arrest perpetrators, increases surveillance – Daily Trust

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has promised to increase security surveillance in Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan North East Local Government Area of the state to guarantee safety of lives and property in the wake of a recent robbery incident.

Obaseki, who was represented by his deputy, Philip Shaibu, said this over the weekend an on-the-spot assessment of the banks affected during the robbery operation.

“You should go about your normal businesses; the state government has beefed up security and surveillance to ensure safety of lives and property. I assure you the perpetrators would be arrested and brought to book,” he said.

He described the incident as a “well-organised crime,” adding that government would do everything needed to improve security in the area.

We are here on behalf of the governor to find out what happened and know the extent of the damage. We are here on a fact-finding mission and have interacted with bank officials, eye witnesses, traders and people living in the area and seen the level of destruction and damage done.”

Recall that armed robbery gang had on Thursday raided Unity, Union, UBA and Zenith banks, all located at Market Road in Uromi, killing eight persons and injuring 12 others before carting away huge sums of money.
