2027: PRP alleges multi-million naira plot to break its ranks, sabotage opposition coalition

ABUJA – The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has alleged a plot by senior members of the ruling party to destabilise its ranks, sabotage its grassroots structures and undermine efforts to build a credible opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the alleged scheme involved hundreds of millions of naira to compromise its officials, exploit former members and create divisions capable of weakening its electoral fortunes.
In a statement by its National Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the PRP alerted its members and the public to the alleged plot, warning supporters against inducements to work against the party.
It alleged that some disgraced former members were being deployed to create the impression of internal division, while strategically placed party officers were being used to undermine its grassroots support.
The PRP specifically warned against attempts by unauthorised persons to recruit polling agents in its name, urging members to resist and expose any financial inducements intended to divert their support.
“The persons in the governing party involved in this scheme have been advised to steer clear of the PRP and distance themselves from attempts to create a fictional PRP with their party’s funds and their names,” the statement said.
The party warned that serving officers found to be involved would face disciplinary action, insisting that neither financial inducements nor internal sabotage would make it abandon its political commitments.
“The leadership of the PRP wishes to assure its candidates and Party supporters that it will not sacrifice their commitments and loyalty at any price,” Baba-Ahmed said.
The PRP said it remained committed to challenging the continuation of the Tinubu administration beyond 2027 and playing a role in building a potentially winning opposition coalition.
