How to Watch Taylor Swift’s ‘Patient Zero’ Music Video

Taylor Swift released her new single “Patient Zero” and the three other new tracks on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore on Friday.

But she waited to reveal the star-studded music video for “Patient Zero.” It will have its premiere tonight during the MTV VMAs.

Hours before the ceremony, she posted an Instagram Story of herself on the set of the music video in March. She said after seeing the lighting, sets, and “how brilliantly Ethan [Tobman] has done this production design, I’m kind of like rethinking the release of the video. Like, I need to figure out a way to get this on TV or something. I’m like, ‘Ethan, Google when are the VMAs?’” Now, the video is getting its TV premiere.

How can I watch Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero” video?

Tune in to the MTV VMAs. It’s unclear when the music video will premiere during the awards show, which starts at 7:30 P.M. ET and runs until 9:30 P.M. ET. However, the singer is being honored with the ceremony’s first-ever Artist Director Honors, which recognizes “groundbreaking music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling,” MTV wrote in a statement. It seems likely Swift will debut the video or reveal its official release time when she accepts the award.

The MTV VMAs are airing live on CBS and streaming live on Paramount+ for subscribers. You can also watch it live on YouTube TV, Hulu Live TV, and DirecTV.

Who is starring in the music video?

Swift is joined by her longtime friend Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell in the clip. On CBS Mornings, the hosts revealed Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki did the cinematography.

What is the music video about?

The first clip was quite short, but it did tease the death of someone both Johnson’s and Swift’s characters know. (If Swift is implying in her song that she was “patient zero,” the first to be infected in an outbreak, it could be her.)

It’s also worth noting Johnson and Swift wear the same outfits and have the same hairstyle throughout the video. Johnson even has on Swift’s signature red lip at one point.

Are there any Easter eggs in the clip?

The tombstone seems to say “daughter” and “gone too soon.” E! noted the similarity to the tombstone in Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, which opens the video and announces the death of her reputation.

Of course, the possible plot details for “Patient Zero” will become clearer in a matter of hours once the song comes out and fans know what it’s about.
