7 August Nail Trends That Will Be Everywhere Before Summer Ends

The month of August often calls to mind languorous out-of-office days and holiday weekends, with an off-duty wardrobe that mirrors the same sentiment. Our manicures take a similar turn, and for many, that means embracing vacation-inspired nails, brighter nail art, and hues they might usually shy away from during the rest of the calendar year.

“Rather than clashing brights or overly busy nail art on every finger, clients are embracing high-pigment saturation and rich dimensions. The maximalism comes from light-reflecting effects like cat-eye magnetic powders and iridescent chromes,” shares Daisy Kalnina, founder and CEO of The GelBottle Inc, who says these manicures still look glossy and polished.

“To make a holiday manicure feel elevated this August, focus on the finish and depth rather than a flat colour. Chromes, high-shine jelly and magnetic gels are a really effective way of instantly elevating a look without the need for detailed art,” she shares.

How to maintain your manicure in the summer months

Nail prep is also key, as warmer temperatures can notoriously wreak havoc on a glossy manicure. “To maintain the best manicure, using the right base is key. If you’re doing your nails at home, you want to look for something with added ingredients to boost nail health and strength. If you’re seeing a nail tech, I’d always recommend BIAB to to strengthen and avoid chipping,” says Kalnina.

Summer aura

Hazy, airbrushed nail art—otherwise known as “aura”—has been gaining traction for some time. For a summer upgrade, add fresh pops of pastel pink and yellow for a feel-good finish.

Dark teal

“Teal had a real moment this summer, but as we head into late August, we’ll see it transition into a richer, moodier dark teal. It bridges the gap between summer brightness and autumn depth perfectly, giving a jewel-toned finish that feels elevated and unexpected,” shares Kalnina.

Olive green

While pistachio might have stolen the limelight this summer, Kalnina predicts olive green will dominate at the end of the season. “August will see sweet, pastels translate into muted olive and moss tones. Olive feels grounded and neutral while still offering a subtle pop of colour, making it the ultimate transitional shade for early autumn,” she shares.

Magnetic manicures

Magnetic cat-eye nails don’t need to be too bold. “Wearing a subtle magnetic shift over warm tones gives nails a molten glow in the late-afternoon sun,” says Kalnina.

Warm tomato

“Red is a staple in any nail kit throughout the year, but late August shifts the palette from bright, orange-toned summer tomato reds toward richer, fiery crimsons,” says Kalnina. “It’s a classic choice that feels tailored and bold.”

Golden yellow

Think of golden yellow as the latest iteration of the famed butter yellow manicure trend. “Think amber, honey, and rich mustard tones that feel grounded rather than pastels,” shares Kalnina.

Juicy grape

“If you’re not ready to commit to deep autumn plums just yet, juicy gels are the ultimate compromise,” she shares. “They keep the playful, punchy energy of summer but with a semi-sheer jelly finish. They’re super glossy, eye-catching and buildable to your desired look.”
