The rumors were true after all: Karlie Kloss, once a close friend of Taylor Swift’s, got an invite to the singer’s Madison Square Garden wedding. The model and her husband, Joshua Kushner, were photographed leaving for the ceremony in SoHo. Kloss had on a draped strapless gold gown. She appeared to nod at Swift’s signature red lip by wearing her own.
Kushner had on a black suit with a bow tie in accordance with the evening’s black-tie dress code.
Swift and Kloss became close in 2012. By 2014, they were regularly photographed out together in New York City. Swift even told Rolling Stone that her guest room was “where Karlie usually stays.”
In February 2015, the singer spoke about how people around them encouraged them to become friends, telling Vogue in her and Kloss’s joint cover story, “People had been telling us for years we needed to meet. I remember makeup artists and hair people going, ‘Doesn’t she remind you of Karlie? God, she and Karlie would be best friends. They’re the same.’”
Fans started to question whether they grew apart in 2018 after they weren’t seen together for months. The next year, rumors heightened after Swift didn’t attend either of Kloss’s weddings to Kushner, including the June 2019 ceremony that Scooter Braun, who had bought Swift’s catalog at that point, attended.
Swift’s 2021 folklore song, “time to go,” raised some fans’ suspicions that there was a falling-out, with Swift singing, “When the words of a sister, come back in whispers, that prove she was not, in fact, what she seemed / Not a twin from your dreams, she’s a crook who was caught.”
But in 2023, the ice seemed to thaw. Kloss was seen at Swift’s final Los Angeles show on The Eras Tour. She also liked Swift’s engagement announcement Instagram. The wedding, it seems, marks the first big public reconciliation moment since then.
