Why Isn’t The Bear Getting a Season 6? Here’s What We Know
The Bear returns for its fifth—and final—season today, bringing Christopher Storer’s acclaimed FX culinary drama to a close. While the show’s ending was announced months before the premiere, some viewers might still be curious why the acclaimed series isn’t continuing with a season 6.
The answer isn’t that FX canceled the series; instead, comments from the cast, creator, and network suggest The Bear is ending for a much more satisfactory reason: Storer decided the story had reached its natural conclusion.
Here’s everything we know.
When was The Bear’s ending announced?
FX officially confirmed in March 2026 that the upcoming season would be the show’s last, with actress Jamie Lee Curtis further sharing the news during an interview with Access Hollywood a few days later.
Lead actor Jeremy Allen White had previously revealed that Storer originally planned to conclude the series even earlier. During a November 2025 appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, White said Storer initially envisioned season 4 as the show’s ending.
“The fourth season was going to be the last,” White revealed. “Chris [Storer] called me on Christmas Eve last year and was like, ‘We’re gonna do some more.’”
Why is The Bear ending?
While Storer has not publicly explained his decision to end the series, comments from the cast suggest season 5 was intended to serve as a fitting close to The Bear’s narrative arc.
As actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach told The Guardian this month, “As much as I’ve loved making the show, it’s time for it to end. It finishes on its own terms in a strong, in-character way. Everybody is taken care of story-wise. I’m dumbly proud of it. I hope viewers feel the same satisfaction I do.”
Ahead of the finale, Moss-Bachrach similarly told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s a really elegant and appropriate ending to the show that feels complete and significant.”
