The Testaments Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Estimated read time2 min read

Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale won’t be leaving Gilead anytime soon. Hulu has officially renewed The Testaments, its follow-up series based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, for a second season ahead of its season 1 finale.

The renewal, which was announced on May 20, comes as the drama continues to gain momentum with viewers worldwide. According to Hulu, the series has surpassed 45 million hours streamed globally across Hulu and Disney+ since its debut.

Here’s everything we know so far about The Testaments season 2.

What will The Testaments season 2 be about?

While Hulu has not released an official synopsis for season 2 yet, the next installment will likely continue following Agnes and Daisy as they begin to question the rigid system they were raised under in Gilead. Season 1 introduced the pair at Aunt Lydia’s elite school for future wives, where obedience is enforced through fear, ritual, and religion.

The series is based on Margaret Atwood’s Booker Prize-winning novel The Testaments, which expands the world established in The Handmaid’s Tale through the perspectives of a younger generation living inside—and outside—Gilead.

Rowan Blanchard, who plays Shunammite, teased where she hopes the story could go next during a recent interview with Teen Vogue. “I’m curious what will make her think that there is something bizarre going on,” she said of her character. “I don’t think she really does until towards the end. I think, for the most part, she really wants to get pregnant and be married. That’s what she wants. So I wonder what will make her crack a little bit.”
