CFRA urges hope, justice at Easter amid rising insecurity

The Christian Faith Reporters Association (CFRA) has called for renewed commitment to peace, justice, and national unity as Christians in Nigeria join others worldwide to celebrate Easter.

In an Easter message signed yesterday by its President, Adeola Ogunlade, said that the association said the significance of the season—marked by sacrifice, hope, redemption, and the triumph of life over death—should inspire Nigerians to embrace love, justice, and courage in the face of ongoing insecurity.

CFRA, however, noted that this year’s celebration is overshadowed by grief following the recent killings of innocent civilians in Jos on Palm Sunday. The association lamented that a period meant for peace and spiritual reflection was marred by violence and loss of lives.

“The sanctity of human life remains sacred, and no society can thrive where bloodshed becomes routine,” the association stated, urging leaders at all levels to reflect the true essence of Easter through decisive actions that protect lives and promote justice.

The group expressed solidarity with families who lost loved ones in the attacks and called for justice for victims, stressing that their pain must not be ignored.

While acknowledging efforts by government authorities to tackle insecurity, CFRA maintained that more proactive and sustained strategies are needed to curb the persistent attacks on vulnerable communities.

It urged security agencies to ensure that perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted, noting that Nigerians deserve to live, work, and worship without fear.

The association also encouraged citizens to use the Easter season as an opportunity to promote peace, unity, and mutual respect across ethnic and religious divides.

CFRA further called for a collective resolve to reject violence and work towards building a nation anchored on justice and righteousness.

“Even in the darkest moments, hope must not be extinguished,” the statement added, expressing optimism that Nigeria can overcome its current challenges through unity and purposeful leadership.
