Get ready to return to the Upside Down. On November 6, Netflix and the Duffer Brothers revealed that a new live-action spinoff series titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, billed as a prequel to the events in the original Stranger Things timeline, will arrive sooner than fans anticipated.

The show will take place in a new location away from Hawkins, Indiana, and Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Caleb, and Max will not be present in the series. Instead, the new show will head southwest and promises some of the same chilling haunts from the original, with even more backstory for fans to enjoy.

“We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating,” the Duffer Brothers shared in a statement to Netflix. “We’re so grateful to our incredible team of collaborators: our showrunner Kate Trefry, who has been in the trenches with us since season 2 and wrote Stranger Things: The First Shadow; and our director, Joe Wright, a brilliant artist whose work we’ve long admired. We can’t wait for you to see what they’re cooking up. It’s Stranger Things, but also thrillingly fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains, and new…actually, we’re not allowed to say any more. Now, on to casting. In the meantime, watch the skies, nerds!”

According to Netflix, “the series is a prequel set in the 1950s, before Stranger Things and before the stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow.” Variety revealed that the show will be filmed in New Mexico.

Netflix revealed that the new show will come out sometime in 2028.

Yes. Netflix released the announcement trailer on November 6, which gives a hint at what’s to come from Other Worlds. On April 16, 1955, in Marion, Nevada, a crack of thunder cuts across an ominous sky and parts the clouds open. Beneath it, a children’s bicycle, fixed with a portable radio, lies abandoned on the ground.

Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, an animated spinoff, was released in April 2026. Unlike Other Worlds, Tales from ’85 followed Eleven between the conclusion of season 2 and the beginning of Stranger Things season 3. The show’s second season premiered in September 2026 on Netflix.
