Will East of Eden Return for a Second Season? Here’s What We Know

2 min read

Netflix’s East of Eden, directed by Zoe Kazan and co-produced with Florence Pugh, offers a rich exploration of morality and a psychological deep-dive into the struggle between good and evil. The show largely follows its main character, Cathy Ames (Pugh), going to great lengths to preserve her free will and leaving a blazing trail of hurt behind her while leaving her husband, Adam Trask (Christopher Abbott), and their twin sons, Cal (Joseph Zada) and Aron Trask (Joe Anders), to deal with the trauma her actions inflicted.

With its stacked cast—which also includes standout performances from Mike Faist as Charles Trask and Hoon Lee as Lee—and rave reviews, fans are curious to know if this television adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel will be receiving a second season. Here’s everything we know so far about East of Eden possibly returning.

Has East of Eden been renewed for season 2?

Not yet, and it likely will not receive a renewal. The Netflix show was billed as a seven-episode limited series before it officially entered production.

In a 2022 interview with Deadline, showrunner Zoe Kazan confirmed it was a limited series, telling the outlet, “Florence Pugh is our dream Cathy; I can’t imagine a more thrilling actor to bring this character to life. Writing this limited series over the last two years has been the creative high point of my life.”

Are there any other adaptations of East of Eden?

Kazan’s version of East of Eden marks the second time the Steinbeck novel has been adapted for the screen. Her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed a film version of East of Eden for Warner Bros. in 1955 that starred James Dean in his first major screen role.
