On August 28, Blackpink’s Jennie released her solo EP Fallen Angel, which is eligible for next year’s MTV VMAs. But this evening, the K-pop star remained out of the spotlight. Jennie wasn’t seen on the red carpet of the Los Angeles ceremony.
Blackpink has two nominations this evening: Best Group and Best K-pop for their song “Jump.” Jennie and her bandmates Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé finished their Deadline World Tour in January and have since been largely focused on solo projects. Jennie made her last big public appearance onstage at Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 1.

Last month, Jennie spoke with Cosmopolitan about how she doesn’t have the next two to three years of her life already planned out for the first time in her career. She is excited to see what happens.
“I’m leaving a little blank space in my head to see if there’s anything else I want to reach for,” she explained. “It’s very special, the unknowingness. It gives me space to just think. I’m seeing it as a great opportunity. But for now, I’m spending every minute and second in it.”
She also shared how her approach to creating music has shifted. “I’m more in control of who’s in the studio and who I’m working with, but I’m definitely not in a space where I want to make everything perfect,” she said. “If anything, I’m heading the other way, where I might sound horrible and may not be perfect, but I’m just trying to enjoy and be less serious and be me. I’m not a ‘let’s be perfect’ person right now. I’m trying to stay on a good vibe.”
