APC sweeps 17 Yobe LG chairmanship seats

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship seats in Saturday’s Yobe State local government elections, with 10 political parties participating in the exercise.
The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) declared the results on Sunday in Damaturu, the state capital, with the ruling party also winning 176 of the 178 councillorship seats contested across the state.
The Chairman of YOSIEC, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Yabani, said the election was conducted across the 17 Local Government Areas and 178 electoral wards.
He said 10 political parties participated in the election, fielding candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship positions.
While the APC secured all 17 chairmanship seats, the Action Peoples Party (APP) won one councillorship seat in Fune Local Government Area, while the Action Democratic Party (ADP) secured one in Karasuwa.
“Out of the 178 councillorship seats, the APC won 176 seats, while APP won in Fune and ADP won in Karasuwa,” Yabani declared.
According to the commission, councillorship results were declared at the respective ward collation centres, while chairmanship results were declared at the local government collation centres before the final collation at the YOSIEC headquarters in Damaturu.
Yabani said the electoral process, which commenced on April 23, 2025, under the leadership of the late former chairman of the commission, Dr Mamman Mohammed, had now been concluded.
Meanwhile, the Yobe State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) accepted the outcome of the election.
Speaking at the NUJ Secretariat in Damaturu, IPAC Chairman, Comrade Umar Adamu Jajere, described the exercise as free, fair, credible and successful.
Jajere commended YOSIEC for conducting the election and urged the newly elected chairmen and councillors to regard their mandates as a responsibility to serve the people at the grassroots.
He also urged candidates who lost the election to remain resilient and continue participating in the democratic process.
