The Biggest Spring 2027 Trends From New York Fashion Week Are Surprisingly Playful

What happens when designers stop taking the rules so seriously? At New York Fashion Week, the spring/summer 2027 shows made a convincing case for loosening up—literally and otherwise. Shirt cuffs grew supersize, scarf belts wrapped around the waist, and cummerbunds escaped the tuxedo. Fringe added movement, while mod silhouettes and punchy color brought a playful ’60s spirit to the season, where the overarching theme was, as Tory Burch put it, the “joy of getting dressed.” Here, without further ado, are the standout spring/summer 2027 trends from New York Fashion Week.

Mini Mod

The ’60s were everywhere on the runway mood boards, from Michael Kors to Zane Li of LII. Li sent out a lineup of micro-mini dresses that channeled the era’s playful irreverence, complete with punchy primary-color blocking and unexpected paneling. Elsewhere, Wes Gordon transformed Carolina Herrera’s own Andy Warhol portrait into an oh-so-mod swing dress, layering on texture and embroidery for extra movement. Fringe appeared on a gorgeously knitted gown—and its accompanying extra-large clutch—at Kallmeyer, as well as at Simkhai, TWP, and Monse, where Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia paired a Grecian-inspired fringe top with a split-hem skirt for a look that moved with every step.

The subtle reimagining of classic wardrobe staples was a defining theme at New York Fashion Week, with one example taking the simple form of an exaggerated dress-shirt cuff.
