Sandy Liang’s Blue Ribbon Manicure Is Spring’s Chicest Nail Trend
2 min readScience confirms that you look better after you’ve been a little active, and Sandy Liang’s spring/summer 2027 show proves that it’s real. For yesterday’s show, the models wore “sporty girl makeup,” done the modern way with strategic pinpricks of highlighter, twisty buns, and ribbon-inspired nail color. “It’s lived in,” makeup artist Emi Kaneko said, and hairstylist Dylan Chavles called the updos “twirly, girly, easy.”
To create the look, Kaneko used some of her and Liang’s K-beauty and skin care favorites. Facialist Sofie Pavitt, who has had Liang as a client for years, prepped the skin with a base to give the skin a “super glassy, fresh” finish, starting with the Fridge to Face Blemish Defense Mist and Omega Rich Moisturizer. “We are playing up a bit of the darkness under the eye,” Kaneko said, pointing to the gray-taupe shade from the Makeup by Mario Neutrals palette. She used a small brush to strategically add highlighter (Decorté Dip in Glow Cream Highlighter or Gucci
Glow Multi-Use Illuminating Gel-Powder Highlighter) on the inner corners of the eyes, over the eyelids, and above the Cupid’s bow for a bit of extra flash. For a sporty flush, she added blush across the cheeks and bridge of the nose, a subtle complement to the ribbon-edged anoraks and track pants worn by models. The Sandy Liang lip combo was the much-loved Make Up For Ever’s Wherever Walnut or Endless Cacao lip pencil (the shades made viral by Hailey Bieber), contoured and buffed out, and the Fwee Lip & Cheek Blurry Pudding Pot, which gave the lips a blurry, matte effect.
Liang’s models also debuted “blue ribbon manicures.” An upcoming collaboration between the nail-care brand Celisse and Liang will feature a special shade of icy blue polish with a shine like “blue satin ribbon,” said Holly Falcone, nail artist and co-founder of the Celisse brand. “It’s on her shopping bags, and it’s always a common theme,” Falcone explained, having worked with Liang for 15 seasons. Other models also wore Celisse’s Bunny or an electric blue that Falcone specially shade matched and developed with Liang to match colors from the collection. Certain models also wore simple pink puffy headbands, and others had a center-part with a semilow pony over the ears that Chavles described as “a perfect sign of womanhood.” “It’s spring, it’s beautiful, and Sandy Liang is outside,” Liang’s show notes said, and with ribbon manicures, workout-flush highlighter, and twisty buns, she reminds us that endorphins make you happy and that it’s good to step out (or at least look like it) once in a while.
