One dies as two-storey building collapses in Lagos

LAGOS — Tragedy struck in Lagos on Thursday when a two-storey building undergoing manual demolition partially collapsed in Aboru, Alimosho Local Government Area, leaving one person dead and two others rescued.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), which confirmed the incident, said the building collapsed around midnight at No. 42 Governors Road, Aboru, in the Alimosho area of the state.

According to the agency, its emergency response team arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call and found workers trapped beneath the rubble.

Two adult males were rescued and given first aid before being taken to a nearby health facility for further medical attention.

Another adult male was recovered dead from beneath the collapsed structure.

As of press time, LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) were at the scene conducting recovery operations.

The agency urged residents and developers to comply with building regulations and engage certified professionals for demolition and construction activities.
