2 min readAfter 27 years, Practical Magic returned with a sequel that sees Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock stepping back into their best witch’s clothes to play Gillian and Sally Owens one more time.
While the first film sets up the story of the Owens family curse, which dooms any man who falls in love with an Owens woman to an untimely death, Practical Magic 2 focuses on the Owens sisters as they attempt to break the curse for Sally’s daughters, Antonia and Kylie.
Bullock revealed at this year’s CinemaCon that returning to the franchise “felt like we came back to a home that we once lived in.”
“Home is what this is,” Kidman, who was also in attendance, added, “and getting to return to these characters that have been so loved and so shared, it really has been magical. And being back together, it just clicked.”
Had it not been for the fans, the sequel would never have come to fruition. “It was an actual demand from people. They were like, ‘Do we get this? Can we please?’” Kidman recalled in an August 2026 interview with British Vogue. “Then it was whether Sandy wanted to do it…Let’s put it this way. I’m like, ‘Why not?’ and she’s like, ‘Why?’”
The time apart didn’t stop the actresses from stepping back into their roles with ease: “Somehow we seamlessly stepped right back into these two sisters’ shoes like no time had passed at all,” Bullock added.

Practical Magic 2 is produced by Warner Bros. Its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, owns HBO Max, making it the home for Practical Magic 2 once the window for Premium Video on Demand (PVOD), during which the film is available to rent or purchase online, concludes.
When will Practical Magic 2 arrive on streaming?
Most Warner Bros. movies arrive on streaming between 70 and 90 days after their theatrical releases. Superman was released on HBO Max after 70 days, while One Battle After Another made it onto the platform after 84 days. With that schedule, Practical Magic 2 could arrive on HBO Max between November 19 and December 9, just in time for the holidays. But we’ll have to wait for an official date from Warner Bros.
Will Practical Magic 2 be streaming on any other platforms?
Some Warner Bros. titles—like Evil Dead Rise (2023) and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)—have made their way to Netflix after first appearing on HBO Max. While not confirmed, there is a chance that Practical Magic 2 could end up on Netflix in 2027, but in the meantime, fans can enjoy the witchy sequel in theaters.
