Travis Kelce Reveals How His and Taylor Swift’s Wedding Phone Ban Changed the Night

Nearly two months after Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift tied the knot, the Kansas City Chiefs player spoke extensively about their July 3 ceremony at Madison Square Garden during the season premiere of New Heights. The remarks come after Travis briefly discussed his nuptials during a Chiefs training camp press briefing last month.

Travis and his brother, co-host Jason Kelce, broke down many details of the night. Travis confirmed he and Swift did have a no-phone policy at the wedding, which changed the vibe for guests, who included both A-list celebrities and Travis and Swift’s longtime friends.

“The ceremony was beautiful,” Jason began. “Adam [Sandler, who officiated the wedding] killed it. Both you and Tay were incredible in your vows. The thing I really liked about this wedding in particular, and the way you guys structured it, was after all that was done, there wasn’t the sit-down formal stuff. There wasn’t a bunch of speeches. It was just time to party and have fun. And that’s what made it so fun for me to be there.”

He also commented on the mix of guests, which even included staff from his former high school. “I haven’t seen Mrs. Clark in forever. That was like the highlight. I saw Brad Pitt hugging Conan O’Brien. I see Paul McCartney and then all of a sudden, I see Mrs. Clark. And I’m like, what in the world?” Jason added.

Travis acknowledged how moving it was to him, too, then noted the impact the couple’s phone ban made on the night. “With no phones comes people not having to be on guard and like feel that something—whatever that feeling is for everyone—it makes everyone be in the moment and be present,” he said. “And it was so cool seeing everyone from my childhood, not only mesh with Taylor and her childhood [group] and her family and friends and people that she works with to who we’ve come [to] encounter over our careers and who we just admire as people and have become good friends with now. It’s just been so cool to see that world come together and hear through person by person after the wedding just how awesome of a time everyone had there. That’s what we wanted it to be. We wanted it to be a beautiful ceremony. And we also wanted to make sure that everybody left there having some fun.”

Travis also discussed why they chose Madison Square Garden as their venue. “We wanted to do it somewhere where we could have a very intimate and genuine setting without a lot of distractions,” he explained. “We needed it to be a private field. And MSG went above and beyond to give us that. And I can’t thank everybody enough that showed up but also that helped put the show on. It was a very magical, magical night.”

The Kansas City Chiefs player spoke very highly about married life, saying, “At this point, we’re what? Over a month out? It’s been so much fun.”
