Hailey Bieber’s ‘Sweet Cream’ Nails Are a Fresh Take on the Milky Manicure
2 min readLeave it to the mother of glazed donut nails to give us a brand-new iteration of a manicure that looks like a sugary treat. In a recent Instagram post, Hailey Bieber debuted what we’re calling “sweet cream” nails.
While glazed donut nails are characterized by a mirror-like chrome finish, sweet cream nails are more toned down and notably devoid of excess sparkle. “To me, sweet cream nails are a soft, sheer milky nude manicure with a subtle, natural undertone,” says Maryna Slynko, international judge, award-winning nail educator, and founder of Slynko Beauty Bloom Studio in Overland Park, Kansas. “To recreate this look at the salon, I would ask for a sheer milky nude or soft creamy nude, applied in a thin layer to maintain a touch of translucency. That translucency is what gives the manicure its soft, creamy appearance.”
To achieve nails like Bieber’s, it’s all about a precise application, according to Jin Soon Choi, a celebrity and editorial manicurist based in New York City. “The key is to apply very thin layers so the color looks creamy but never opaque, then to finish with a super-shiny top coat,” she says. “Hailey’s look was created with gel, but you can get a similar effect with regular polish. I would use one very thin coat of JINsoon Dew, follow it with two thin coats of JINsoon Muse, and finish with a top coat for that healthy, glossy finish.”
Bieber’s sweet cream nails are the ideal no-mani manicure that has also been seen on Pamela Anderson and Anne Hathaway recently. They never clash with your outfit and the grow-out process is easy, since they’re like a skin tint for your fingers—your nails but better. Plus, they look good enough to eat (or drink).
