The 6 Best Swimsuit Styles for Every Summer Scenario
1 min readIf you’ve ever struggled through a summer vacation in clinging, uncomfortable, or low-quality swimwear, then you’ll understand the importance of finding a bikini or swimsuit that makes you feel your best.
I, for one, take my swimwear as seriously as I take my denim—very seriously. What I’ve come to realize is that, just like jeans, you should save certain swimwear for specific scenarios. Where a statement string bikini might be ideal for lounging poolside, it might not be the best choice when water sports are on the agenda. Likewise, if you’re looking to work on your tan, a high-coverage swimsuit will probably not leave you with the desired results.
While I won’t divulge the number of bikinis I own (it’s a lot), I will happily disclose the best styles that I’ve found after plenty of trial and error. Below are my top six bikinis of all time, with plenty of tips on sizing, style, and where the best (or worst) places to wear them are.
I own three bikinis from Triangl and, while they are all strong contenders for this article, it’s this ‘Scoop’ set that I rarely travel without. You can choose from three different bottom styles that offer different levels of coverage, and the material is thick enough to hold its own while playing mermaids in the pool. Note: I would size up at least one size in the brand’s entire offering, as they tend to run small and fit snugly.
A brand loved by Dua Lipa and many of us at ELLE HQ, Oserée is the swimwear brand to wear when you’re not afraid to get noticed. I particularly love the Lumière Layered Bikini design, which is far more supportive than it looks. The extra straps are all completely adjustable, while the Lumiere fabric glistens under the sun and the orange and purple colour-way boldly stands out. Although I would avoid water sports in this one, I’d definitely wear it to work on my tan by the pool.
The go-to for flattering crinkle fabric, Hunza G is a brand that deserves all of its flowers. I have the style named ‘Julia’ that features a gold hoop at the bust and briefs that sit mid-waist. This might be the only bikini I trust to stay on during water sports as it hugs the body and works hard to stay in place without feeling too tight. Note: all the brand’s pieces are made with a one-size design.

For many of us, wired bras and bikinis can feel uncomfortable and unflattering, always digging in where we’d rather they didn’t. There is a choice of boxers or briefs for the bottoms of which I would opt for the latter, as they are less likely to ride up awkwardly.
