Why Fans Think Taylor Swift Is Teasing New Music on the Toy Story 5 Soundtrack
THE RUNDOWN
- Taylor Swift is rumored to be releasing music for Toy Story 5.
- Certain changes to her website and media support fan theories.
- But the film’s production team has denied it.
The last few months, fans have been searching for Easter eggs on Taylor Swift’s website and in her catalog to support the theory she has new music coming out on the Toy Story 5soundtrack.
But in an interview with Shivani Khosla, the new film’s director Andrew Stanton and producer Lindsey Collins uniformly denied the possibility, especially that the final song of the film was one of Swift’s.
In response to the rumors, Stanton admitted, “It surprised us. What a freakin’ honor.”
“It would be pretty amazing,” Collins added.
Stanton concluded, “The sad truth is we watched the movie being mixed last week and the song on the end was not Taylor Swift.”
So, why do Swift’s fans think it’s a possibility?
In April, a countdown appeared on Swift’s website, which is a fairly regular occurrence, usually leading to a special limited-edition vinyl release announcement. This one was up briefly and taken down quickly, returning to regularly scheduled The Life of a Showgirl promo. The countdown was notable for its mystery and also for the blue sky and clouds pattern behind it, which looks so much like the Toy Story brand motif. So did the bright yellow font used for the numbers.
And just a few days earlier, she wore a Staud dress with a purse and heels in the same color motif.
The movie is also set for the release date June 19, 2026. That day marks the 20th anniversary of Swift’s debut single, “Tim McGraw.”
Then on May 29, the digital background image for Swift’s album 1989 changed on Apple Music and YouTube Music from seagulls against a blue sky to fluffy clouds against a blue sky. That same day, billboards for Toy Story 5 went up with a pretty basic design: clouds on blue and the letters “TS,” which could just be short for Toy Story or could be a reference to Taylor Swift’s initials.
However, the billboards are reportedly only up until June 1, meaning a narrow window to catch a glimpse of them. And who would make that effort like a Swiftie?
Associating Swift and Pixar and Disney is not a huge jump, even without all these alleged hints. The star streamed her concert films, including Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour | The Final Show, and her 2020 documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions on Disney+, meaning she’s had a long relationship with the company. Writing music for one of their biggest franchises could someday be a new milestone.
