The Rarest Astrological Event of 2026 Is Happening This Weekend
Somewhere between watching flight prices climb and closing another travel tab, a different kind of wanderlust is brewing. While it may or may not fall into the aspirational, passport stamp variety in 2026, its hold on our psyches is just as strong. “I just need to go somewhere,” it demands. “Anywhere. Now.”
For this we can thank (or blame) May’s rare full blue moon in Sagittarius, which launches its cosmic campaign for summer adventuring on May 31. As the zodiac’s Archer draws back its bow, its arrows are aimed at a more manageable kind of journey: the weekend getaway.
A blue moon, FYI, is not actually a cerulean-tinted lunar moment. This term refers to the second full moon in a single calendar month, a phenomenon that happens every two to three years. May opened with a full moon in Scorpio on May 1 and closes with the Sagittarius full moon on May 31. Before this, the last blue moon was on Aug. 30, 2023, and we won’t get another until Dec. 31, 2028. They simply don’t happen very often. As such, we astrologers like to look at them as incentive to do something a little (or very) out of the ordinary.
Which leads us back to reframing “weekend” as a verb. As in: “Shall we weekend in East Hampton? Chanel just opened its new boutique and I need the Coco Beach mesh bucket bag.” It might just be for a night or maybe three, especially if a friend has a guest room or pullout sofa to spare.
It’s worth noting that fancy is not essential for weekending. The outdoorsy Sagittarius full moon fully endorses everything from glamping in an Airstream to good old-fashioned roasting-marshmallows-around-the-fire camping. This trend has gone viral among It girls in recent years. In 2023, Tribeca-based influencer Liv Schrieber introduced Camp Social in the Poconos. The three-day, two-night sleepaway camp is billed as “the #1 Adult Camp for Women.” Designed intentionally to foster friendships among women, Camp Social had a 60,000-person waiting list in 2025. The 2026 dates sold out in a month’s time.
Are you more of a “bring a book to the beach” girl? Anything that expands your mind is also Sagittarian terrain. This is the sign of wisdom, philosophy, and education, after all. Reading retreats have been reshaping travel in recent years, too, drawing peripatetic book lovers to places like Formentera (Ibiza’s sister island) and the Catskills for literary-centered odysseys. Each month, New York-based Page Break hosts a three-day retreat for 15 people with everyone reading the same book. On deck for June 2026 is No God but Us by Bobuq Sayed.
Staying overnight is also not a must for those wishing to weekend. Gas prices are no joke, so here’s an excuse to take a train or jitney—or rent an electric car. We’ve gotten a whole vacation vibe from riding the Long Island Rail Road from Penn Station to Montauk with a paperback, SPF 50, a cooler full of salads and snacks, and a nap on the way home.
Either way, if you were lucky enough to score the sold-out-everywhere Isabel Marant x Havaianas collab, you’ll be the envy of all your fellow weekenders. So, where are you heading this summer?
