THE RUNDOWN

  • Bella Hadid wore a sheer custom Schiaparelli gown at the Cannes Film Festival this evening for the La Bataille de Gaulle: L’Âge de Fer screening.
  • The dress featured a dramatic cutout that extended from her neck to her hips.
  • The outfit defies the festival’s dress code, which prohibits nudity on the red carpet “for decency reasons.”

Despite the Cannes Film Festival’s dress code prohibiting nudity on the red carpet “for decency reasons,” attendees have pushed the limits on what they can get away with—and Bella Hadid tried her hand this evening with her see-through lace Schiaparelli gown. The form-fitting lace-up dress includes a dramatic cutout that extends from the neck to the hips, along with an oversize black bow in the back. The custom piece required 22,160 hours of embroidery work and the expertise of 130 artisans, the fashion house revealed.

This is the model’s second red carpet look at the Cannes Film Festival this year. She attended the Garance screening on May 17 in a satin Prada gown. Her brother, Anwar Hadid, joined her in a black suit:

Hadid is a frequent guest at the Cannes Film Festival. Leading up to her arrival in the French Riviera last week, Hadid reminisced on past years’ looks, writing, “Nine years of my favorite week ????”

This marks the model’s 10th year at the festival; she made her debut in 2016 in a daring custom Roberto Cavalli couture dress:

Throughout this year’s festival, the Chopard ambassador has posted on Instagram. She wrote in one post, “Honey I’m Home ???? @festivaldecannes @chopard.”

In March 2026, Hadid gave a rare interview to Vogue where she discussed her outlook for the year. She noted that it is the year of the horse in the Chinese zodiac, which, as a horse lover, especially resonates with her. “It’s a year of growth and being able to understand yourself better,” she said. “And for me, trusting my intuition and walking in my truth to see what comes up along the way is really important to me.”

She also discussed her experience recently acting in The Beauty. “The entire set taught me how to release control and the obsession with perfectionism,” she said. “My comfort zone is when I’m in control, but I knew I had to get out of my comfort zone, let loose, and let go. Being beautiful or perfect was the lowest thing on this list at the end of a day on set, and that was a really big learning lesson for me. I will have that for the rest of my life.”
