Taylor Hill’s Favorite Jewelry Advice Came From Her Mom
2 min readWhen it comes to building the perfect jewelry stack, Taylor Hill learned from the best: her mother. “My mom is a jewelry girl. I get a lot of my obsession with jewelry from her,” the model tells ELLE. “Growing up, I would see her with her eight to 10 bracelets on both her wrists and a ring on every finger.”
That more-is-more sensibility comes naturally to Hill and is at the center of Jared Jewelers’ new “Dear Summer” campaign, in which the model stars alongside her husband, Daniel Fryer. “We shot in Palm Springs at Frank Sinatra’s house,” Hill says of the David Lipman-directed visuals. “Even though we were in one location, we were able to capture so many different environments.”
The campaign sees Hill in a variety of layered looks against multiple backdrops, from an idyllic pool setting to a fiery sports car to intimate moments with Fryer. She mixes metals, diamonds, gemstones, and pearls throughout for a look that’s elevated yet lived-in.
Also at play is the collection’s effortless versatility. She wears Jared’s statement pieces, from its classic cultured pearl necklaces to sterling silver cuffs, with a crisp white button-down and a sleek black one-piece swimsuit. “In the summer especially, it’s so much fun to explore because your arms are bare, there are different necklines [and] you can play around with different textures,” the model notes.
Hill was drawn to the array of diamond tennis necklaces on set, but shopping for her mom is all about complementing her already perfected stack. “I can’t get her something that she could only wear on its own,” Hill explains. “I have to add to what she’s already wearing because she never takes it off. That’s the tricky part.”
Hill may have inherited her mom’s eye for jewelry—and an aquamarine ring that once belonged to her grandmother—but the most lasting lesson she learned was one of confidence. A hairstylist by trade, Hill’s mom instilled a grounded sense of self as Hill began modeling in her teenage years.
“When you’re on set being completely transformed, everyone starts saying ‘You look so beautiful’ after the fact,” Hill says. “So you’re like ‘Is this what makes me beautiful?’ And my mom would always say ‘No, no, no. That’s a character that you are playing. That’s not who you are. Who you are is what makes you beautiful. You need to know that and embrace that.”
