On Sunday night, Rose Byrne walked the red carpet for the 2026 Academy Awards in a strapless black floral gown by Dior. Byrne wore her hair in a sleek updo. For makeup, she had a slightly smoky eye and a bright red lip. She kept her accessories minimal, wearing simple gold studs in her ears and a circle necklace with an off-center pendant.

Byrne looked dazzling on the carpet, and if you asked her husband, Bobby Cannavale, he would agree. The actor was spotted sneaking photos of his wife from the wings before joining her in front of the cameras.

This year, Byrne was nominated for Best Actress for her role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. The film follows her character, Linda, a mother at the end of her rope as she is thrust into caring for her high-needs child solo. The Australian actress won a Golden Globe for her performance in January.

During her speech, she made a joking reference to the fact that her husband was not in attendance because he was at “a reptile expo in New Jersey.”

In her 2025 ELLE Women in Hollywood cover story, Byrne said, “Mothers are both revered and ignored; there’s this duality. It’s so hard to chat about motherhood, because you feel if you’re anything but delighted, there’s a lot of shame around that.”

She added, “The movie is blowing all that up and making you pay attention. You have to acknowledge this woman, even though she’s making terrible choices.”
