Jessie Buckley has spent years keeping her personal life out of the spotlight, even as her career has pulled her further into it. The Hamnet star has confirmed she’s married to a man named Freddie, with most details about him coming from the handful of times she’s chosen to speak about their relationship in interviews.

Here’s what Buckley has shared about Freddie.

His name is Freddie, and Buckley has not publicly shared his last name.

In an August 2025 profile, The New York Times identified Buckley’s husband only as “Freddie,” adding that Buckley “declined to give his last name and age,” per the piece.

During her January 2024 appearance on the Table Manners podcast, Buckley explicitly identified Freddie as her husband while talking about cooking at home: “One of my favorite ever dishes is anchovy pasta…Freddie makes it. I’m rubbish at making it and Freddie…my husband…it’s from a New York Times recipe but it’s just capers, chillies, about a pint of oil, great parsley, and garlic.”

They met on a blind date.

Buckley also described how they met on Table Manners, saying, “We met on a blind date.” She then confirmed they were set up by a music executive, who worked with Buckley on Wild Rose: “Marc Robinson set us up.”

Freddie works in mental health.

When asked on Table Manners what Freddie does, Buckley replied: “He’s working in mental health. He’s gone back to university to work in mental health.”

She has said Freddie is English.

In the same Table Manners conversation, Buckley confirmed: “He’s English, yeah. He’s from Islington.”

Buckley and Freddie got married at their Norfolk home.

Buckley went into detail about how they ended up in Norfolk on Table Manners: “Friends of ours had moved to Norfolk and bought this old place for like nothing on an auction… and then they showed us this house that we live in which is like [from the] 1500s and falling down…it’s just, it’s a really amazing old house that’s been there forever.”

When asked if that house is where they got married, Buckley answered: “Yeah.”

She has shared very specific details from their wedding.

On Table Manners, Buckley explained a local café called Towpath was part of their special day: “When we first started dating we—because we lived in Dalston—we would go to the Towpath all the time… so they came and did the food for us.”

She also described one of her favorite memories: “One of my favorite memories of the day was like—we—I wanted a keg of Guinness and I definitely wanted their cheese toasties at a certain hour.”

Freddie has stayed out of the public eye due to his career.

In January 2026, British Vogue explicitly framed Freddie’s privacy as intentional, writing: “Given his profession, his anonymity is crucial.”

Buckley has spoken publicly about becoming a mother.

Buckley discussed early parenthood on The New York Times’s Modern Love podcast in December 2025, saying, “Everyone’s doing great… Everything’s different…Everything’s new. This little human’s new. You’re new. Your relationship’s new. Your whole relationship to the world is new. It’s intense, but it’s just—I just love it. I love it so much.”

She also said: “I really can see her little personality start to come through. I see this life force in her and determination. And I hope she loves life as much as I do.”

Buckley had previously opened up about early motherhood in a November 2025 interview with ELLE, saying, “The best thing about being a mom is just when even when you’re having a hard day, they give you these otherworldly little smiles and make your heart crack into a thousand pieces and you think, ‘Oh, it’s all going to be okay.’”

Buckley added in the same ELLE interview: “My little girl just started to laugh and make silly noises, and I think it’s the funniest and cutest thing in the world.”

Freddie attended the 2026 Golden Globes with Buckley.

In January 2026, Buckley attended the Golden Globes alongside her husband. During her acceptance speech after winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for Hamnet, Buckley publicly acknowledged him from the stage, saying, “My husband, he’s really been enjoying the free canapés and cocktails.”

Buckley reflected on love and marriage in a February 2026 interview.

In her Deadline cover story, Buckley reflected on how her understanding of love has evolved. “I think love is terrifying,” she said. “I have been scared of love for a lot of my life, and it took me a long while to discover what that word even meant for me, not just the idea of it. I think sometimes love at first sight, it’s too much of a projected idea for it to…I think it takes…You can’t just make a meal. You have to cook it.”

She also described the simplicity of her life at home with her husband, saying, “I have tracksuit pants that are eaten by moths to within an inch of their life. I have a bath that’s old. I light fires. We don’t have a TV. I cook. I just do the simplest things, and I need to step off. I need to step out. I’m not method. I definitely like to very gently stir the soup…And who knows what bloody method is, whatever! Everybody has a method of some sort, but I just like to simmer in it, but also be human and be with my husband, be with my daughter, cook, not care. I don’t think I could sustain where I like to go in my work if I didn’t have someplace to come back and just be absolutely human.”
