Tyla is bringing grunge mermaidcore to the red carpet.

On October 30 in London, the “Chanel” singer was honored at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards. For the event, she was styled by Ron Hartleben and wore a look by London designer George Trochopoulos: a cropped jacket made entirely out of mussel shells with nothing underneath.

She paired the daring top with a shredded black skirt and black heels. Her hair, done by Rachael Banjo, was styled in half-braided look, and she accessorized with gold drop earrings. Her glam, by Ngozi Edeme, included soft pink blush, a natural lip, and metallic eyeshadow.

In her Glamour cover story, the South African pop star opened up about her approach to beauty and style. “I feel the most Tyla when I’m in a protective style, or my natural hair,” she said. “When I really want to play and feel like a character, that’s when I pull out the lace front.”

And her looks aren’t complete without one thing. “If I don’t have a slit in my eyebrow, there’s something wrong. I will find a razor. I once got the blade out of a shaving razor that you use for your legs to slit my eyebrow. Don’t do this at home; I’m careful. I’m a professional.”

She also enjoys making her own clothing and adding her signature touch. “I will take a top and I will stretch the neck and make it into a skirt, and then I will take my top and I’ll cut it up. I will just make it happen.”
