House Dems demand more info about Homan scandal from Trump admin

House Democrats are pressing the Trump administration for answers in the ongoing scandal around border czar Tom Homan.
In a letter sent to Department of Justice Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward, Democratic lawmakers lambasted the White House’s “conflicting and increasingly desperate statements” in response to allegations of bribery leveled at Homan.
“We write now to follow up and demand that you answer fundamental questions,” the letter read. “Who knew about the Homan cash bribery scandal, when did they know it, and why was Mr. Homan appointed ‘Border Czar’ even in the face of such damning evidence of his taking bribes for government contracts?”
MSNBC reported that Homan accepted a $50,000 cash bribe from undercover FBI agents in September 2024. The agents were reportedly posing as business executives, and the outlet shared that Homan took the money in exchange for government contracts in a second Trump administration. The investigation in Homan by the FBI was ended in early 2025, according to a report from the New York Times.
Woodward was responsible for researching and vetting candidates joining the Trump administration during the transition to Trump’s second term.
“It accordingly appears that the decision to kill the investigation was pre-ordained from the moment Mr. Trump decided to proceed with Mr. Homan’s appointment despite overwhelming evidence that he was guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery and sell government contracts for his personal enrichment,” Dems wrote in their letter to Woodward.

Homan has denied the allegations, and the Trump administration has come to his defense. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said last month that the agents were trying to “entrap one of the president’s top allies and supporters.”In a recent appearance on Fox News, Homan defended himself, calling the report on the alleged bribery a “hit piece.”
“Look, I did nothing criminal, I did nothing illegal,” Homan said. “And I’m glad the FBI and DOJ said that nothing illegal happened, no criminal activity.”
