Why Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro Posed Separately at the 2025 Oscars and Vanity Fair Party

Monica Barbaro is attending her first Academy Awards as a nominee, and boyfriend Andrew Garfield is with her at the ceremony. The new couple just didn’t pose together, however, likely to keep the spotlight on their careers. Barbaro wore a blush pink sleevelss Dior gown, while Garfield was in a brown suit by Gucci.

Barbaro is up for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in A Complete Unknown. Garfield, meanwhile, is a presenter this evening.

We’ll have to wait and see if Barbaro and Garfield reunite inside the ceremony or continue to keep things on the down-low. At the time of writing, we’ve seen Garfield present an award with Goldie Hawn, while Barbaro was spotted socializing with Ariana Grande inside the Dolby Theater.

People reported Barbaro and Garfield were dating on February 21. A source said, “They’ve been really low-key and have been spending time together quietly.”

When Oscar nominations were announced, Barbaro told Variety that earning an individual nod was a total surprise. “I’m in London right now, and I was mid-fitting with costume designer Jenny Eagan,” she said. “She kept refreshing her phone, and I was like, ‘I don’t want to know anything.’ I looked at my phone and fell on the floor. I’m elated. This is surreal.”

When asked who she would bring as a plus one, Barbaro responded, “I have no idea. This is the first time I’ve even thought about it. I’m an actor, and I’m just excited to be working. I don’t get plus ones to these things—or to parties.”

Barbaro and Garfield were first seen together in January at W magazine’s Best Performances party in Los Angeles. Prior to tonight, they were most recently spotted on February 20, attending a performance of Jonathan Bailey’s Richard II in London.
